Any quick lateral movement of the capillary tip during injection might damage the cell. Therefore, when using injection times longer than 0.5 seconds vibration isolation is strongly recommended.

Since the system's resonance frequency is well below 50 Hz, a stone plate - that effectively filters higher frequencies - is not very useful. To filter low frequencies too, a system floating on a cushion of compressed air is most effective.

There are quite a number manufacturers producing such vibration isolation systems. In most cases they are available as stand alone tables of different sizes. In principle any vibration isolation system is better than none. Therefore, as far as function is concerned, we will not recommend a single brand.

In case only lab bench space is available, the Newport BenchTop™ Compact Vibration Isolation Platform has proved to be an effective device, lifting the microscope only 60 mm above benchtop surface, giving unobstructed instrument access. For AIS 2 we sell the Newport BT 2024 (61.0 x 50.8 cm or 20 in. x 24 in.) with plastic laminate surface.
